Preparation Method
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Prepare the apples: Wash and dry the apples. Using an apple corer or knife, remove the cores, leaving about half an inch at the base. This creates a “cup” for the filling.
- Mix the filling: In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons (28g) of softened butter, 3 tablespoons (60g) of honey, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and a pinch of nutmeg.
- Fill the apples: Spoon the filling into the hollowed-out apples, packing it lightly. If desired, sprinkle chopped walnuts or raisins on top.
- Arrange the apples: Place the apples upright in a baking dish. Add about 1/4 cup (60ml) of water to the dish to prevent sticking and create steam.
- Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 15–20 minutes, or until the apples are tender but not mushy.
- Cool slightly: Let the apples cool for about 5 minutes before serving.
You’ll know the apples are ready when they’re fork-tender and golden brown on top. Don’t forget to spoon some of the caramel-like sauce from the bottom of the dish over the apples before serving!
